Check out our favorite outdoor activities in the San Bernardino Mountains. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions. We’re more than happy to help!

Rock Climbing and Scrambling

Up in the mountains, we have world-class climbing and scrambling. It’s a great workout and an incredible way to get an up close and personal experience with nature. You don’t need to be an experienced climber to give it a shot. But if you already have experience, we recommend this guidebook or and online guide that will direct you to the best spots in the area. For newbies, there are excellent tours where a guide will show you the ropes (pun intended).

Here's a list of our favorite spots:

  • Holcomb Valley Pinnacles
  • Snow Valley Boulders
  • Dinosaur Rocks (Arrowbear)

Axe Throwing

We’ve all been told not to play with knives, right? Well, no one’s said anything about axes! Over in Big Bear, there’s an indoor axe throwing location called Yosemite Axe. After your first throw, you’ll be hooked! Anyone older than 8 is welcome to participate, so you can bring the whole family along. You’ll be tossing the axes at a bullseye target, and it’s a fun way to have a little competition with family and friends.

Zip Lining

We can’t recommend signing up for a zipline tour enough. The company Action Tours will take you on an adventure-packed 3-hour journey throw the gorgeous scenery. You’ll load up on a 4x4 vehicle, and your guides will take you two miles into the mountains, where your zipping experience will begin. The guides who operate the company prioritize safety first and adventure second. It’ll be a safe and exciting way to get a perspective of the San Bernardino region you can’t get anywhere else.

Hiking

Hiking is a no-brainer, and there’s no shortage of options out here! You’ll have your pick between calm strolls around lakes or more strenuous treks in the mountains. Check out these trails on All Trails in the San Bernardino area, or check out our favorites around Greek Valley Lake here! As always, feel free to reach out if you need suggestions.

Don’t forget to pack water, snacks, and sunscreen! If you’re the only person in the group who wants to go hiking, make sure they know which trail you’ll be on and what time they should expect you to be back–safety first!

Kayaking

No matter where your Get Lost Inn cabin is located, there are three accessible lakes perfect for kayaking: Lake Gregory, Green Valley Lake, and Big Bear Lake. You’ll have no trouble finding rental shops. Lathering up in sunscreen is crucial! You don’t want to get back to your cabin red as a lobster! If you decide to bring your phone to take pictures, we recommend putting it in a couple Ziploc bags to keep it safe!

Skiing and Snowboarding

In the winter, the snow is powdery and plentiful! Each season, people flock here for a chance to ski and snowboard the world-renowned slopes in San Bernardino, so make sure to book your trip in advance before accommodation sells out!

From your cabin, you can go shred at the Snow Valley Mountain Resort, Snow Summit, and Big Bear Mountain. Don’t worry if you don’t have a board or skis because there are tons of great rental shops. We recommend that you bring your own snow jackets and pants (these items can get a little pricy at ski resorts and rental shops).

Mountain Biking

Pack your bike when you come to the mountains because we have top-tier mountain biking trails. Our favorite spots to ride are Rim Nordic Mountain Biking Park, Exploration Trail in Arrowbear, and Pedal Path on the north shore of Big Bear. If it’s your first time riding up here, you’re going to be blown away! Big Bear is home to mountain bike races, and they’re fun, festive events to attend. Feel free to sign up for a race if you’re a serious rider!

Alpine Slide

You can’t miss out on hitting the alpine slide during your trip. The site is located at Magic Mountain (not related to Six Flags) in Big Bear, and no matter how old you and the people in your group are, it’s guaranteed fun! In the winter, you can also go snow tubing, which we describe as ultra-sledding! Check out Magic Mountain’s website for more information on all the activities it offers.

Big Bear Ropes Courses

If you’re looking for a fun adventure, then the Big Bear Ropes Course is the place for you! The 6,400 square foot park has over 37 obstacles that are 12 to 35 feet in the air–oh yeah! No guide is needed, and you can try or avoid any sections you’d like. Don’t worry about falling from one of the obstacles because you’ll be safely hooked up to a harness. It’s an exhilarating experience for all ages!

Final Thoughts

It’s important to get outside and have adventures as much as possible. We know that life can get in the way of that, but if you’re staying at the Get Lost Inn cabins, now’s your time to get out into nature! The San Bernardino Mountains have it all. You couldn’t have picked a better place to go mountain biking, hiking, and kayaking. And there are plenty of opportunities to try activities, like axe throwing, that you may have never tried before. So, get out there and have some fun!
